John McCain’s Speech

September 5, 2008

My reaction to John McCain’s speech last night…BULLSHIT.

The story was beautiful, POW. The theme, Washington is broken and we’re (Republicans) partly to blame. Very touching, but BULLSHIT.

Unless you’ve been in a coma the last four days, woke up to hear this speech and did not see a single bit of footage or read a single article, you would know that the last four days just contradicted anything relevant John McCain said.

Let me get this straight, you’re the party that’s suppose to reach across the aisle to get things done? But I was just told for four days that I’m to blame. Liberals, East Coast Liberals, Cosmopolitan Liberals, Elitist, the media, the elitist media, San Francisco, SF values….it’s everybody else’s fault except for the people who have been in control.

Listening to the convention, I could have sworn that the Democrats have been in power the last eight years. John Stewart said it best, “Electe us (Republicans) to fix the problems we are responsible for.”

I’m sorry, but I’m fed up with this crap. If I hear one more thing about small town America and small town values, I’m going to puke. Like somehow because I went to college, had success in my career and I live in the city, I’m not a true American. BULLSHIT!

I live in New York City and I believe in the Constitution. I don’t believe in God, yet I still have morals. I’m a liberal, but I’ve supported every war since I’ve been an adult, except the last invasion of Iraq. Disagreeing  with a policy does not make me less of an American than anyone else.

Listen up people, you the ones that are still undecided…this election is about issues. What do you believe in? This election is not about character and you don’t make decisions with your gut. This election is not about voting for the first black guy or the first woman, either way, one is going to happen, so forget history. Just look at the party’s platform…the freaking Republicans not only want to prevent federal funding for stem cell research (which they have succeeded because of Bush’s veto), but they want to ban ALL private stem cell research!! Who is running this party? I thought John McCain was suppose to be some kind of Maverick. I guess he is, since a large majority of Americans support Stem Cell research.

Listen up people in Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, Virginia and New Hampshire…the states that will really decide this election. What do you believe in? What do you really believe in? New Hampshire has on their license plates, “Live Free or Die,” yet they voted Republican in 2000 and 2004. The same Republicans who have tortured and wired tapped illegally all in the name of ‘protecting you’. You vote for McCain, you can change that slogan from “Live Free or Die” to “Protect Me at All Costs.”

Random Thoughts Again

September 4, 2008

ENTERTAINMENT – Sean Penn is gay. At least he is in a movie that looks pretty good.

POLITICS -If Republicans don’t mention it, does it mean it doesn’t exist? The Republicans have not mentioned Afghanistan a single time during the convention. Maybe they should also close their eyes and cover their ears as well.

SPORTS – There’s pot at Penn State. It’s for medical use, I swear.

40% are Insane

September 3, 2008

Let me get this straight, 40% of the country, would vote for Sarah Palin over Hillary Clinton…right now. Really? 40% of the country would consider giving a person who was in the PTA less than six years ago the Presidency?

Wow.

Another poll has her favorable rating at 52%. This is sort of a pointless poll. What is favorable mean? Does this mean likable? I like her, so I might vote yes to that question, but because of her views (from the few that I know about), I will never vote for a ticket she is on.

Tonight should be interesting. After seeing Sarah Palin speak when she was first introduced last Friday, there is little doubt she won’t be great tonight. Honest? Don’t count on it, but that’s not what this night is about. The press won’t call her out on any of it tonight, instead they’ll spend the night guessing analyzing what America thought of her speech.

One final Palin note, we need to do a new countdown. The Sarah Palin Interview Countdown. The Governor has been the VEEP choice for nearly a week now, yet she has given only one interview…to People Magazine. Obviously the McCain people are giving her a crash course on McCain’s politics, so she’ll be prepared to answer with all the correct talking points. But a week, that’s just sad.

Questions I Want to Hear

September 3, 2008

Question I’m dying to hear at the Republican convention…

To Karl Rove…you said Tom Kaine was not qualified to be Obama’s Vice President because he had only been governor of VIrginia for three years and before that, a mayor of the 105th largest city in the country? If that’s true, then why is Sara Palin is qualified?

To Fred Thompson and George Bush, why won’t you call the torture that John McCain received while as a POW, torture?

To women considering to vote for McCain, what’s more sexist, vetting Sarah Palin (since McCain really didn’t) or voting against the Equal Pay Bill and opposing contraception?

To any Republican…if America is addictive to oil, then why is more drilling the only solution? Do we give more heroin to a heroin attack to help him kick the habit?

To John McCain…if children are off limits in a campaign, then how to you explain your joke about Chelsea Clinton being ugly?

Will Sarah Palin ever do a press conference or allow herself to be interviewed by anyone (other than People Magazine)?

To John McCain…since you believe that Global Warming is man-made (for now at least you do), but your Vice President hopeful doesn’t, how will this effect your policy decision making?

To John McCain…if fighting the war against Islamic terror is the most important battle of the 21st Century, then why did you choice a VEEP that was close to Russia? Shouldn’t you have chosen a VEEP who is closer to Mecca?

To John McCain…how come when you reach across to the other party, it’s bipartisanship, but when Obama does it, it’s pandering?
