Culpepper Retires, The World Mourns

September 4, 2008

Daute Culpepper announced his retirement today, after struggling to find a job this season. This is a sad day in the basement. Although I wasn’t a Vikings fan, I always rooted for Culpepper ever since he came out of Central Florida.

It is amazing what one solid knee injury can do to a career. Prior to the injury in 2005, Culpepper was on his way to a Hall of Fame career. His career passer rating was a solid 89.9 and just look at his stats from 2004…4,717 passing yards, 39 touchdowns. Since the injury, he’s bounced around from Miami and Oakland (finding trouble on local booze cruises).

I can only hope he’s not really done. Quarterback play in this league is pretty bad and QB dept is pretty awful. I have to assume some team, somewhere will come calling.
