Atlanta at Tampa Bay -7
Even though I’m becoming convinced that Gruden may be the worst coach for a QB in league history, the Falcons are still young, this one is outdoors and the Bucs D isn’t the Lions (even though they resembled it last week). By the way, if the Buccaneer do when by a lot with Griese at QB, then Jeff Garcia will have plenty of time to spend with his lovely wife (right) in the near future.
BUCCANEERS 17-13

Buffalo at Jacksonville -5.5
Obviously the people who make these spreads didn’t watch last week’s games. I like the Cats straight up, but this one will be low scoring and close. How close, how about a last second field goal.
JAGUARS 19-17

Chicago at Carolina -3
If the Bears can pull out back-to-back wins on the road to start the season. I’ll jump on their bandwagon. However, the Panthers will put nine in the box and dare the Bears to throw it.
PANTHERS 20-13

Tennessee at Cincinnati +1
I have no desire to even touch this one, but I promised I’d give you every pick and unlike with my wife, I like to keep my promises. The Bengals will look better at home, but I like the Titans without Young.
TITANS 24-21

New Orleans at Washington (E)
Again, I wouldn’t put a dollar on this game, but the Redskins look to be in disarray, while the Saints seemed to be in mid-season mode already.
SAINTS 24-13

Green Bay at Detroit +3
It’s one thing to do it at home, but another to do it in a dome. Rogers gets a slight test in the Dome. Don’t underestimate the Lions at home. They’ll be looking to run the ball often, opening up the passing game early. After saying all that, I’m still picking the Packers straight up, not giving the spread to the Lions.
PACKERS 31-30

N.Y. Giants at St. Louis +8.5
I couldn’t possibly give the benefit of the doubt to the Rams, even at home, can I? The G-Men only play well when there’s a chip on their shoulders and not when they’re expected to win. They’ll win, but not cover.
GIANTS 27-20

Oakland at Kansas City -3.5
The game I’m least interested in watching. The Raiders have no faith in their QB yet and they have nobody on defense. The Chiefs have some playmakers in Bowe, Gonzalez and LJ.
CHIEFS 20-14

Indianapolis at Minnesota +2
Man, I am itching to take the Vikings here and no, it’s not my ‘roids. However, the Vikings can’t stop a pass from being completed, so I’m rolling with he Colts in a close one.
COLTS 31-27

San Francisco at Seattle -7
the Seahawks are thisclose to bringing Steve Largent back as a receiver, they just lose their top running back and they’re coming off an ass-whopping by Buffalo, but they are still a seven-point favorite? Not in my eyes, I put my faith in Gore. The Hawks win, but not cover.
SEAHAWKS 23-20

Miami at Arizona -6.5
Can the Fins, coming off a heartbreaking home loss to the Jets, go across the country to the desert and win a game against an improved Cardinals? No, no they can’t. They can cover though, although I’d be much happier with that extra half point.
CARDINALS 31-27

New England at N.Y. Jets -1.5
Ok kids, let the Post-Brady era begin. Look for the Patriots to come out motivated and ready to play. You have to believe the Pats defense probably knows the Jets offense better than Brett does.
PATRIOTS 20-16

San Diego at Denver +1.5
Do I really believe in Cutler? I know what I’m getting in San Diego. They’ll run the ball a lot over a suspect Broncos front seven, but I like home dogs. I also like the over on this one.
BRONCOS 38-34

Pittsburgh at Cleveland +6
Speaking of home dogs, I love home dogs coming off of a bad opening day defeat. Am I the only one who remembers how bad the Steelers are on the road? Am I the only one who remembers Fast Willie Parker gaining 200 yards at home one week, only to follow it up on the road with 40 yards? This one is my GUARANTEE of the week. Cleveland covers and wins.
BROWNS 31-28

Philadelphia at Dallas -7
No doubt the Eagles are motivated. They don’t fear the Cowboys and they’re not afraid to step into Texas Stadium and do some damage. Having said that, the Cowboys are too good in September.
COWBOYS 31-14

Baltimore at Houston -4.5
Always go with the post-Hurricane home team, that’s what Mamma always said.
TEXANS 21-7

LAST WEEK:
Straight up, 11-5
Spread, 8-8 (Down $100)
Guarantee, 1-0

#3 NY GIANTS [...]

#1 DALLAS – Tony Romo beats the Browns, comes home and helps a old couple change a flat tire and then I assume goes home to have sex with Jessica. What a life.

#2 GREEN BAY -The Packers handled everyone’s favorite Superbowl Sleeper. I’ll say it again, Green Bay is better without Brett Favre.

#3 NY GIANTS - I was actually less than impressed by their 9-point win over a clueless Redskin team, but we won’t learn anything new in week two. They’re facing the Rams.

#4 PITTSBURGH -This one was too easy. Remember though, before you get too hyper. This is a team that is just 6-10 on the road the last to years. Do it on the road and I’ll be more impressed.

#5 NEW ORLEANS -Now that’s a lot of yards for 24 points, but a win is a win and you have to win the home divisional games.

#6 DENVER -It was only Oakland, but Cutler looked like a star. I knew I should have drafted him.

#7 INDIANAPOLIS -Rust. That’s all it was. I’m not buying ‘this team is old’ crap.

#8 CAROLINA -Lucky? Good? Who cares. You won a game no one expected you to win, thus knocking out many suicide pool players.

#9 NEW ENGLAND – Karma for cheaters. Maybe there is a God.

#10 MINNESOTA -What happened to that vaunted defense. They got shredded by a first-time starter.

#11 SAN DIEGO -It is defeats like this that keep you from getting home field advantage in the playoffs.

#12 PHILADELPHIA -It was against the Rams, so I’m not impressed. Didn’t they do the same thing early last year against the Lions?

#13 CHICAGO -Why don’t I have them higher? Because I’m slow to believe. However, I love that Forte kid. Someone please explain why they wasted a roster spot on Kevin Jones?

#14 NY JETS -Next week will be the game that matters. The Patriots defense probably knows the Jets offense better than Brett Favre does.

#15 BUFFALO – Talk about winning it will offense, defense and special teams.

#16 TENNESSEE – I’ll bet you a dollar the Titans are a better team without Fragile Vince.

#17 BALTIMORE -They still won’t win eight games.

#18 MIAMI -They had the ball deep in Jets’ territory three times in the fourth quarter, yet produced only one touchdown. That’s what you get when you mix a Pennington with a Dolphin.

#19 JACKSONVILLE – Why didn’t anyone tell me that the Jaguars have no offensive line?

#20 CLEVELAND – This game showed, they still have a long way too go.

#21 ARIZONA -Yea, they beat the 49ers. USC Trojans could beat the 49ers.

#22 TAMPA BAY – On FOX, Jimmy Johnson called Jeff Garcia a ’safe’ quarterback. He was, until that game ending interception.

#23 ATLANTA – Now that was impressive. So why do I still have them too low? Give me a break, I moved them up eight spots.

#24 KANSAS CITY – First and goal at the five with a minute to go….and they fail to move it an inch. That’s the Chiefs for you.

#25 HOUSTON – Really? After all the training over the last few months, after all the planning, this was the best you could come up with?

#26 WASHINGTON – Dazed and confused.

#27 DETROIT -Where’s your God now, Kitna?

#28 SAN FRANCISCO -At least Frank Gore looked good. He could be the next Brian Westbrook.

#29 SEATTLE – That touchdown on the fake field goal…that sums it up all pretty nicely.

#30 CINCINNATI -And the Marve Lewis countdown begins, 5…4…3…

#31 ST. LOUIS -Speaking of being fired, the Rams embarrassed us all on Sunday.

#32 OAKLAND – I know you’re suppose to keep it simple for Russell, but one pass attempt in the first quarter?

The week that was (so far). I only went 9-5 straight up, not too impressive. The home teams really stepped up, nailing down 11 wins. I also had a losing week with the spread, going 7-7. Yep, batting .500 in betting is bad. Let’s see what happened. If I bet $100 on each game, right now I’m down $100 for the year.

NY Giants 16-7 Washington (+4)
I PREDICTED GIANTS 27-20. The Giants won, but it was less than impressive. The Redskins looked lost and Campbell has regressed in the West Coast Offense. New York went conservative in the second half, failing to produce a point in the second half.

New Orleans 24-20 Tampa Bay (+3)
I PREDICTED SAINTS 34-20. I nailed the losers points, so that’s something, right? The two teams ran up 790 total yards, but only managed 44 points. Reggie Bush looked like a #1 fantasy player this week. Was it a fluke?

Philadelphia 38-3 St. Louis (+7.5)
I PREDICTED EAGLES 35-30. You know I spend all pre-season telling everyone the Rams will suck, that their O-line can’t do anything. I refuse to draft any Rams’ players on my fantasy team, but then I go ahead and predict that they score 30 points. Jackass. The Eagles aren’t this good, so this could get ugly in St. Louis.

Pittsburgh 38-17 Houston (+6.5)
I PREDICTED STEELERS 28-17. Now this jut pisses me off. A year after Willie Parker kills my fantasy season, he rushes for three touchdowns, one more than he had ALL OF LAST SEASON. How long before the Texans start screaming for Sage?

Atlanta 34-21 Detriot (-3)
I PREDICTED LIONS 23-13. A pathetic performance by the Lions, particularly their defense. I still don’t think the Falcons will win more than four games this year, but in their division, who knows.

Buffalo 34-10 Seattle (-1)
I PREDICTED BILLS 19-17. Did we just witness the end of one era (Seattle) and the beginning of another (Bills). This was probably the best overall performance of the week.

Baltimore 17-10 Cincinnati (-1.5)
I PREDICTED BENGALS 21-6. The Bengals are a joke…at least on the road they are. The Ravens started a rookie QB and a rookie RB, yet it was the Bungals who looked like they were playing their first football game. Tell me, how many people drafted Carson Palmer over Donovan McNabb in their fantasy league?

Tennessee 17-10 Jacksonville at (-3)
I PREDICTED TITANS 20-16. Could the Titans be better without Vince Young? We’ll find out over the next three weeks.

NY Jets 20-14 Miami (+3)
I PREDICTED DOLPHINS 13-10. Being a life long MIami Hurricanes fans, it just makes me sad when I see a sporting event played in the city of Miami. The Fins couldn’t sell out their home opener and that’s with half the fans being Jet fans.

New England 17-10 Kansas City (+16.5)
I PREDICTED PATRIOTS 42-10. Most people are predicting 10 wins for the Patriots now. Maybe. Next week against the Jets, we’ll learn a lot more. As for Chiefs, is there any question who should be the starting QB?

Carolina 26-24 San Diego (-9)
I PREDICTED CHARGERS 31-9. Shocking, the Chargers laid another egg…at home…in week one. It’s one thing to be shredded up by Brady or Manning. It’s another thing when it’s Jake Delhomme.

Arizona 23-13 San Francisco (+2.5)
I PREDICTED CARDINALS 27-10. If it wasn’t for God blessing us with fantasy football, would anyone care about this game? I knew Frank Gore’s stat line before I knew the results of this game.

Dallas 28-10 Cleveland (+5.5)
I PREDICTED COWBOYS 28-10. Coach Romeo Crennel should be fired. Not because he lost this game, but rather, with his team down 28-7, the Browns had the ball on the Dallas 17, fourth down, three yards to go. There was 10 minutes to go in the game. You need three scores, so what does Romeo do? He kicks a field goal? Huh? Who does that? With ten minutes to go, you’re not going to get the ball back three more times. In the end, they never got it back, as Dallas ran off the last ten minutes.

Chicago 29-13 Indianapolis (-9.5)
I PREDICTED COLTS 21-13. Is this the end of the Colts? Don’t judge them too hard on this one. I believe a lot of AFC teams who played late had a bad reaction to the Brady injury. The Bears defense was impressive to say the least, but not as impressive as rookie running back, Matt Forte. He had over 100 yards rushing in the first half, finishing with 123 and a TD for the game.

It looks like Sarah Palin is not going to be doing an interview countdown anytime soon, which means our little countdown might be going on for a long while. What next, she’s going to skip the debate with Biden to spend “more time with her family?”

I can only hope these reports are untrue. Can a VEEP really not do a press conference, not do a single interview with a single reporter? Hell, she hasn’t even done a radio interview with Rush, Sean or Hugh, and those guys would put the softballs up on the tee for her.

Come on Palin, you’re the greatest thing for the Republicans since sliced (white) bread, what are you afraid of? I’m sure you have answers to why you’re lying about being against the ‘Bridge to Nowhere’. I’m sure you can explain all those duties you’ve performed as head of the Alaskan National Guard. I’m sure there is a good explanation for why when you were mayor your town went from a surplus to a dept in your short time as mayor. I’m sure you got the answer to why your state, while you were governor, leads the nation in most earmark money/per person in the country, yet you’re going to fight earmarks. I’m sure there is a good reason why as governor you have shot down any type of alternative energy for your state and you slashed funding for teen moms. I believe you have to have an answer to why it was okay for you to tax Windfall profits of Alaskan oil companies and give the money straight to the people was a good idea, but it’s a bad idea when Obama suggests it, it is a bad idea.

I’ll even throw in some easy ones like, what’s the difference between a Shia and Sunni? Let’s talk about why you believe the Bible should be taught in Public Schools next to Science? Can you explain to me how you didn’t know the Pledge was not created by the Founding Fathers? If your daughter was raped, would you really not let her have an abortion if she wanted one? If you don’t believe that Global Warming is Man-Made, then will you support all of McCain’s Green policies? Who is the prime minister of Russia? What steps would you take to ban abortion? Do you STILL not know what a Vice President (the second most important person in our Constitution, does?

My reaction to John McCain’s speech last night…BULLSHIT.

The story was beautiful, POW. The theme, Washington is broken and we’re (Republicans) partly to blame. Very touching, but BULLSHIT.

Unless you’ve been in a coma the last four days, woke up to hear this speech and did not see a single bit of footage or read a single article, you would know that the last four days just contradicted anything relevant John McCain said.

Let me get this straight, you’re the party that’s suppose to reach across the aisle to get things done? But I was just told for four days that I’m to blame. Liberals, East Coast Liberals, Cosmopolitan Liberals, Elitist, the media, the elitist media, San Francisco, SF values….it’s everybody else’s fault except for the people who have been in control.

Listening to the convention, I could have sworn that the Democrats have been in power the last eight years. John Stewart said it best, “Electe us (Republicans) to fix the problems we are responsible for.”

I’m sorry, but I’m fed up with this crap. If I hear one more thing about small town America and small town values, I’m going to puke. Like somehow because I went to college, had success in my career and I live in the city, I’m not a true American. BULLSHIT!

I live in New York City and I believe in the Constitution. I don’t believe in God, yet I still have morals. I’m a liberal, but I’ve supported every war since I’ve been an adult, except the last invasion of Iraq. Disagreeing with a policy does not make me less of an American than anyone else.

Listen up people, you the ones that are still undecided…this election is about issues. What do you believe in? This election is not about character and you don’t make decisions with your gut. This election is not about voting for the first black guy or the first woman, either way, one is going to happen, so forget history. Just look at the party’s platform…the freaking Republicans not only want to prevent federal funding for stem cell research (which they have succeeded because of Bush’s veto), but they want to ban ALL private stem cell research!! Who is running this party? I thought John McCain was suppose to be some kind of Maverick. I guess he is, since a large majority of Americans support Stem Cell research.

Listen up people in Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, Virginia and New Hampshire…the states that will really decide this election. What do you believe in? What do you really believe in? New Hampshire has on their license plates, “Live Free or Die,” yet they voted Republican in 2000 and 2004. The same Republicans who have tortured and wired tapped illegally all in the name of ‘protecting you’. You vote for McCain, you can change that slogan from “Live Free or Die” to “Protect Me at All Costs.”

In November, when you go to make that decision, do NOT forget, you and I will be known throughout history as the generation that tortured. We allowed our government to use the same torture techniques that the Japanese used, the Nazis used and the North Vietnamese used on John McCain. Yet after four days of a Republican convention and they couldn’t even call the torture John McCain went through what it is…torture.

And before you let some moron claim that we only torture the worst of the worse, let me tell you yet again, BULLSHIT! Even if they were the ‘worst of the worst’ it doesn’t matter. What makes us GOOD and them EVIL is the fact WE DON’T TORTURE. Evil people torture, we don’t. Back in WWII, when German soldiers surrendered, they were happy to be captured by the Americans and not the Soviets. Why? Because we didn’t torture.

Of course John McCain has spoken out about this, good for him, but like he likes to say, it’s only words. When he had a chance to prevent the CIA from waterboarding, he voted against it. John McCain, war hero, POW who was tortured, voted against preventing the CIA from torturing. How can he justify this? He himself has correctly claimed that when people are tortured, they don’t reveal the truth, they reveal what they think you want to here, so how can he justify this? He can’t.

When you go into that voting booth people, you need to decide. Do I want to remain the generation of torture, or do I want to put a stop to this?

The time of ignorance has to stop. It is time to look at the issues and decide what is important to each one of you. The Republicans have their head so far up their own asses, yet they claim they are the party to lead. The same party who nominated a VEEP who is okay with the words “Under God” in the pledge because “if the founding fathers were okay with it, then (she) is okay with it.” WTF? Shouldn’t the person who is a heartbeat away from the Presidency know the history of the country? Should she know that the words ‘under God’ wasn’t put into the pledge until 1950? Didn’t she learn at one of her five colleges that the freaking pledge wasn’t created until the late 19th Century? The Founding Fathers didn’t believe in Pledging to a piece of cloth. How can she be Vice President and be expected to protect the Constitution if she’s never even read it? Has she even read the Bill of Rights?

Look back at that Republican convention and please God, tell me what you learned? Besides the fact that Liberals are all Elitist and the media is bad (despite the evidence), what did we learn? What policy did you hear about? What are the plans the Republicans have to fix the problems in this country. I heard one from McCain, the teacher’s Union! Yeah, get those commie…huh?

John McCain’s big plan is to go after the teacher’s Union? That’s his big plan. The economy is in the tank, millions are losing their homes, gas is up around four bucks, we’re fighting two wars (while McCain is picking fights with two other countries), global warming goes unchecked, but the big idea John McCain has is to go after the teacher’s union? Now that’s the reason to vote for McCain.

The other reason and the one that got the biggest applause all week long…drilling. Yep, Americans are addicted to oil, so what do we do? Give them more oil. This is where ignorance comes in. People, you need to do your homework. Let’s ignore that the oil companies already have 16 million acres of land they can drill on now, but choose not to. Let’s ignore the Environmental concerns. Lets even give the benefit of the doubt to the Republicans about how much oil is really there and guess what? You’ll never pay what you use to pay for gas…ever…again.

Let me explain to you how this works. Any oil the United States gets out of the ground and ocean goes into the global market. Read that again, it goes into the global market. All oil, from all countries, goes onto the global market. So whatever the price is, that’s what we’ll be paying for a barrel of oil. Even if the U.S. floods the market with oil, other countries will slow down production. Why? Because they don’t want oil to cost less than $100 a barrel. Will producing more domestic oil reduce the price some? Of course, but do you really believe oil companies are going to go back to charging $1.50 when the consumer has proven they’ll pay $3.50? Think about this real hard, if I’m a drug dealer and I have a Heroin addict willing to pay $100 for a bag of dope, do you think I’m going to start charging him $20 again?

A long time ago, the United States of America made the decision to lead by example and become a Industrialized nation. It paid off big time. Now we have the chance to lead the way in the new Industrialized movement…green. You can help make that happen, you have that choice. Vote for a party that believes in this, or vote for the party that doesn’t even believe Global Warming is man-made.

We the American people gave the Republicans full power eight years ago and look what it got us; a destroyed economy, lost homes, September 11th, failure to capture the man responsible for 9/11, two wars that have no ending in sight, wiretapping, secret prisons and torture (to just name a handful). All I’m saying is, maybe it’s time to give the other side their shot. I’m not saying Democrats have all the answers and can deliver every solution. However, at least we’re trying, while the other side is not even willing to admit there is a problem. It’s our time now.
