NFL WEEK ONE, A LOOK BACK

The week that was (so far). I only went 9-5 straight up, not too impressive. The home teams really stepped up, nailing down 11 wins. I also had a losing week with the spread, going 7-7. Yep, batting .500 in betting is bad. Let’s see what happened. If I bet $100 on each game, right now I’m down $100 for the year.

NY Giants 16-7 Washington (+4)
I PREDICTED GIANTS 27-20. The Giants won, but it was less than impressive. The Redskins looked lost and Campbell has regressed in the West Coast Offense. New York went conservative in the second half, failing to produce a point in the second half.

New Orleans 24-20 Tampa Bay (+3)
I PREDICTED SAINTS 34-20. I nailed the losers points, so that’s something, right? The two teams ran up 790 total yards, but only managed 44 points. Reggie Bush looked like a #1 fantasy player this week. Was it a fluke?

Philadelphia 38-3 St. Louis (+7.5)
I PREDICTED EAGLES 35-30. You know I spend all pre-season telling everyone the Rams will suck, that their O-line can’t do anything. I refuse to draft any Rams’ players on my fantasy team, but then I go ahead and predict that they score 30 points. Jackass. The Eagles aren’t this good, so this could get ugly in St. Louis.

Pittsburgh 38-17 Houston (+6.5)
I PREDICTED STEELERS 28-17. Now this jut pisses me off. A year after Willie Parker kills my fantasy season, he rushes for three touchdowns, one more than he had ALL OF LAST SEASON. How long before the Texans start screaming for Sage?

Atlanta 34-21 Detriot (-3)
I PREDICTED LIONS 23-13. A pathetic performance by the Lions, particularly their defense. I still don’t think the Falcons will win more than four games this year, but in their division, who knows.

Buffalo 34-10 Seattle (-1)
I PREDICTED BILLS 19-17. Did we just witness the end of one era (Seattle) and the beginning of another (Bills). This was probably the best overall performance of the week.

Baltimore 17-10 Cincinnati (-1.5)
I PREDICTED BENGALS 21-6. The Bengals are a joke…at least on the road they are. The Ravens started a rookie QB and a rookie RB, yet it was the Bungals who looked like they were playing their first football game. Tell me, how many people drafted Carson Palmer over Donovan McNabb in their fantasy league?

Tennessee 17-10 Jacksonville at (-3)
I PREDICTED TITANS 20-16. Could the Titans be better without Vince Young? We’ll find out over the next three weeks.

NY Jets 20-14 Miami (+3)
I PREDICTED DOLPHINS 13-10. Being a life long MIami Hurricanes fans, it just makes me sad when I see a sporting event played in the city of Miami. The Fins couldn’t sell out their home opener and that’s with half the fans being Jet fans.

New England 17-10 Kansas City (+16.5)
I PREDICTED PATRIOTS 42-10. Most people are predicting 10 wins for the Patriots now. Maybe. Next week against the Jets, we’ll learn a lot more. As for Chiefs, is there any question who should be the starting QB?

Carolina 26-24 San Diego (-9)
I PREDICTED CHARGERS 31-9. Shocking, the Chargers laid another egg…at home…in week one. It’s one thing to be shredded up by Brady or Manning. It’s another thing when it’s Jake Delhomme.

Arizona 23-13 San Francisco (+2.5)
I PREDICTED CARDINALS 27-10. If it wasn’t for God blessing us with fantasy football, would anyone care about this game? I knew Frank Gore’s stat line before I knew the results of this game.

Dallas 28-10 Cleveland (+5.5)
I PREDICTED COWBOYS 28-10. Coach Romeo Crennel should be fired. Not because he lost this game, but rather, with his team down 28-7, the Browns had the ball on the Dallas 17, fourth down, three yards to go. There was 10 minutes to go in the game. You need three scores, so what does Romeo do? He kicks a field goal? Huh? Who does that? With ten minutes to go, you’re not going to get the ball back three more times. In the end, they never got it back, as Dallas ran off the last ten minutes.

Chicago 29-13 Indianapolis (-9.5)
I PREDICTED COLTS 21-13. Is this the end of the Colts? Don’t judge them too hard on this one. I believe a lot of AFC teams who played late had a bad reaction to the Brady injury. The Bears defense was impressive to say the least, but not as impressive as rookie running back, Matt Forte. He had over 100 yards rushing in the first half, finishing with 123 and a TD for the game.
